Past Projects Hall of Fame

Here's a small collection of some of the projects I've done in the past, either out of my own creativity or inspired by things I've seen on Pinterest or online. Just a taste of some of my favorite projects!

Dorm Room Decor

These photos (taken 3 years ago already!) are from my freshman year dorm room. My mom and I put together some crafts to make the room look cuter! Some of my favorites...to the right, you can see we took a string of christmas lights and cut out flower di-cuts with a hole punched in the center to slip over the lights. It made the room brighter and was cuter than just regular lights! We also sewed our initials onto old pillows that we covered with cute polka-dotted fabric. The letters are made of felt.
Below is our TV/fridge area. We needed more storage below our lofted beds, so my mom came up with the brilliant idea of using Rubbermaid drawer bins instead of buying a TV stand! We lined the inside of the drawers with wrapping paper to cover up what was inside. Scrapbook paper is also a great solution! It was inexpensive and adorable! We also used a piece of wood painted white on top of the drawers for added support for the TV and our coffee maker.

Computer Desktop
I just love this adorable, easy tutorial for making a monogrammed computer desktop screen! I got the tutorial from the lovely Hannah at Pink and Green Prep and she shows you how to make them here.
This is mine:

Word Art
So before I studied abroad, I thought it would be fun to leave behind some cute notes for my friends at school. I searched for some neat fonts on dafont.com and just using Sharpie pens I copied them onto paper and wrote cute quotes about friendship. Nothing too fancy or hard, but they loved it!

Chevron Canvases
These are one of my favorite projects and a wonderful gift for friends! I've made a couple of them, and they always turn out pretty well! On a canvas you measure out one inch squares and connect them with lines in a zig-zag chevron formation as the picture shows. Next, tape them off using painter's tape. Pick any color you like for your chevron stripes and paint in between your taped off areas. Once the paint has dried, remove the tape. I haven't found a way to make it so that my lines are perfect and the paint doesn't bleed, so each time I've made one, I've had to go back in and touch up the chevron stripes with my colored paint. You can use matte or glossy paint-both look really cute! To finish it off, I bought a wooden letter and painted it with an accent color and hot-glued it to the canvas.

Monogram Hairbow
This is a project I originally got from a flea market; a lady was selling these adorable hairbows for like $12, so I figured I could make my own for cheaper. I bought 4 different ribbons in varying colors and thicknesses and started with the fattest on the bottom. I cut each type of ribbon into 4 pieces of the same length and folded them in half, gluing them in place with craft glue. Hot glue will probably make it too thick, but you can use that as well. I alternated the direction of the ribbon to give it a full effect and topped it off with a monogrammed pin from Hobby Lobby. On the back, I glued a French hair clip, but a pin would work as well! This one is in my school colors and I wear it when I work and give tours of campus.

No-Bake Cake Batter Truffles
I made these for a friend's birthday party and let me warn you-they are DANGEROUS. I am in love with them. Here's the recipe, originally from chefintraining.com:

  1. Beat together butter and sugar using an electric mixer until combined. Blend in vanilla. Add cake mix, flour, salt, and vanilla and mix thoroughly. Add 3 Tablespoons of milk or more if needed to make a dough consistency. Mix in sprinkles by hand. Roll dough into one inch balls and place on a parchment or wax paper lined cookie sheet. Chill balls in the refrigerator for 15 minutes to firm up.
  2. While dough balls are chilling, melt almond bark in the microwave in 30 second intervals until melted. Stir between intervals. Once melted, quickly stir in cake mix until incorporated completely. Using a fork, dip truffles into almond bark and shake of excess bark by tapping the bottom of the fork on the side of your bowl. Place truffle back on the cookie sheet and top with sprinkles. Repeat with remaining balls until finished. {Note: for smoother looking truffles, don't add cake mix to melted chocolate, just leave it by itself}
  3. Chill cake batter truffles in the refrigerator until serving. Makes around 24-30 truffles.
Monogram Decal
So this isn't exactly a project, but I do love promoting products I love! This monogrammed decal was ordered from GSMonograms on Etsy and I love it for my computer! I always get compliments on it, and it's a great way to personalize your computer, water bottle, thermos, planner, anything! I have the 2 inch decal and it costs $3.25.

Lilly Print Canvases
These are not my finest work, but I had so much fun doing them and they were perfect to hang in my sorority house. I'll probably attempt to paint another Lilly print sometime soon, but they can be quite difficult in my opinion. These two prints are You Gotta Regatta and Hotty Pink First Impression. I used acrylic paint on canvas.
